I. Agency Description
Vision: Neighbors and congregations living in caring community
Member Congregations: Pilgrim Congregational Church, United Church of Christ; Union Avenue Christian Church, Disciples of Christ; Westminster Presbyterian Church (P.C.U.S.A.)
Goals:
- To build a thriving, healthy community in which member congregations and neighbors partner to strengthen one other
- To strategically allocate the resources and energies of Union Communion Ministries to all forms of outreach ministry, including direct services and systemic change
- To structure Union Communion Ministries in a well coordinated, simplified, and effective way, so that congregation members and neighbors clearly understand the vision and mission of the ministry
- To engage neighbors and members of the three churches in vital new ways of outreach that will be central to congregational and Union Communion life
- To call people to new depths of faithfulness through Union Communion Ministries, so that outreach ministry may become a means for evangelizing new and current members, and for bringing God's healing to all
Union Communion Ministries is a non-profit corporation that seeks to re-vision the mission of its predecessor organization, Joint Community Ministries, a voice in the Union/Delmar community since 1966.
II. Executive Director Responsibilities and Functions
A. Administration
1. Program planning and development
2. Evaluation of programming
3. Participation in a strategic planning process
B. Personnel Management
1. Coordination of volunteer efforts
2. Supervision of interns and other staff as necessary
C. Financial Management
1. Preparation and management of annual budget
2. Fund development: resource identification, grant writing, and other fund raising
D. Communications and Public Relations
1. Communicate the vision of U.C.M. to groups and organizations in the neighborhood and
beyond
2. Represent U.C.M. at appropriate congregational and community forums and events
3. Foster working relationships among congregations and with local groups and
organizations
III. Accountability: The Executive Director is accountable to and reports directly to the Union Communion Board of Directors.
IV. Qualifications
Master’s-level degree in related area preferred; Bachelor’s degree required
3-5 years experience in social service or social change setting
Administrative experience
Ability to communicate and work effectively with highly diverse populations
Ability and commitment to work with faith-based organizations
Computer literacy
Grant writing and other fund-raising experience
History of starting things (personal and/or professional)
