It Was Your Eyes He Opened… We walked down the path to the well-house, attracted by the fragrance of the honeysuckle with which it was covered. Someone was drawing water and my teacher placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream gushed over one hand she spelled into the other the word water, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still, my whole attention fixed upon the motions of her fingers. Suddenly I felt a misty consciousness as of something forgotten — a thrill of returning thought; and somehow the mystery of language was revealed to me. I knew then that ‘w…a…t…e…r” meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, and set it free! There were barriers still, it is true, but barriers that could in time be swept away. I left the well-house eager to learn. — Helen Keller Join Us on a Journey to Learn Each Wednesday evening during Lent we invite you to join us as we journey in faith. The evening begins at 5:45 with a community meal, followed by three distinct learning opportunities to enrich and enlighten your Lenten experience. Walking to Jerusalem WALKING TO JERUSALEM explores the connections between scripture, spirituality and health in a weekly Bible study. With a nod to holistic health, participants will journey through weekly scripture lessons as they seek to nurture body, mind and spirit. What would it take for you to change course in your life? For you to feel rich in your heart, your soul, and the way you live each day? It all begins with one step. This program will be led by Gayle Mason, R.N., and Cindy Bumb, pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. Beyond the Passion BEYOND THE PASSION is a weekly study of the book, Beyond the Passion, in which participants will explore the life and death of the historical Jesus through the writing of Stephen J. Patterson, Professor of New Testament at Eden Theological Seminary. Participants will seek answers to questions such as, “Why did Jesus die?” “What does it mean to speak of Jesus’ death as a ‘sacrifice’?” “How did the earliest Christians understand the resurrection?” Journey JOURNEY is a time of contemplative prayer and meditation in the style of Taizé. Taizé prayer (pronounced Ti’ zay) is an ecumenical meditative service, where one journeys inward in search of a quiet and simple meeting place with God. We will sing uncomplicated, repetitive songs, uncluttered by too many words, to bring forth an authentic encounter with the mystery of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Through the beauty of simplicity, we desire to make possible a journey that is both meditative and yet accessible to all. This program will be led by Suzanne Webb, Scott Schoonover and Ron Lindsey. Hands-On Lent HANDS-ON LENT is a program in which our children will be challenged to engage the symbols and themes of Lent through creative activities and craft projects designed to help them explore the story of Jesus' life and ministry. All ages are welcome.
