Community Garden
In partnership with Union Communion Ministries and Gateway Greening, we help to maintain a community garden in our neighborhood, with all our produce donated to Dignity House, an outreach to children and families in our community. Union Avenue members help to prepare and plant the garden beds. Volunteers from our Urban Mission Inn ministry maintain the garden throughout the summer and help to harvest the produce such as carrots, peppers, egg plant, tomatoes, and various herbs.
In the summer of 2010, our volunteers also created a mural in the garden which stands as a great piece of community art and celebrates the goal of the garden to offer healthy food to our neighbors in need. To see images of the garden project, go here.
