Food For the Faith Journey…continued Sunday, August 7 — Me? An Evangelist? How Can That Be? – Many of us think of “evangelism” as a dirty word. It conjures up images of strong-arming others, forcing our faith upon them, and risking the reputation of being considered “preachy” or “too religious.” Whether you feel called to the ministry of evangelism or if the very though of being an “evangelist” raises issues of concern for you, we invite you to be part of this special Christian education opportunity as Brent Dodge hosts a look at a variety of ways of understanding evangelism and the various skills and tasks related to Union Avenue Christian Church's “evangelistic” ministry. In this single-session exploration, we'll also learn how the evangelism department helps us all do the important ministry of reaching out to those beyond our walls. This study will meet in the Fellowship Room. Sunday, August 14 — Creativity and the Spirit – This session, led by Betsy Gibbs, will focus on the connection between creativity, art and spirituality. This will be a hands-on drawing class for the novice and the accomplished alike. Sunday, August 21 — Personal Safety – In this class, led by our T'ai Chi instructor, Thomas Hollander, participants will be empowered with a variety of mental, physical and verbal skills needed to stay safe and secure. This session is appropriate for anyone over the age of 13. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing (a great excuse to dress-down for one Sunday!). Handouts will be available as well as demonstrations of various skills during a question and answer session. Sunday, August 28 — Walking to Jerusalem Celebration – We'll gather to celebrate our accomplishment together of trying to walk the number of miles to Jerusalem. Food, stories and fellowship will be shared and we will look ahead to ways we can continue to promote healthy bodies, minds and spirits within our congregation.
