Small Groups
We strongly believe that faith formation and learning happens most often in community with others. At Union Avenue Christian we strive to offer a variety of learning opportunities which also provide a place for fellowship and personal suppport.
In addition to our regular small groups such as our Sunday morning classes, the choir, and our young adult and youth groups, we offer a regular rotation of small group offerings which meet throughout the week at different times and places.
Below you will find the small group offerings for Fall 2009. If you see one that sparks your interest, we’d love for you to get involved. Simply contact Associate Minister Brian Kirk for more information at brianskirk at yahoo.com
Lunch Break and the Classics – Take an hour in mid-day to talk with others about one of the spiritual classics as well as devotional practices that are helpful. This group will meet from noon-1pm on the first Tuesday of the month at the church. The first readings will be from Thomas Merton’s New Seeds of Contemplation. Montly gatherings will also include discussion of helpful devotional practices. Rev Suzanne Webb facilitates.
Art on the Edge! Many works of art do more for us than decorate a wall. They provoke. They challenge. They push us to consider the important questions of life, faith, relationships, and culture. This group, meeting on Wednesday evenings, will join together to examine and discuss contemporary and classic works of art that invite the viewer to ask “Why?” Rev. Brian Kirk facilitates.
Lunch Bunch – Do you make it a habit of going out for lunch after Sunday worship? Why not join with others who do the same? This group will meet regularly after worship for fellowship and food at a neighborhood eatery.
Women Together – A women’s book study, meeting monthly to discuss the intersection of faith and fiction. The first meeting of the fall will look at the text The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder by Rebecca Wells. The group meets on a Wednesday evening monthly at the home of a group member. Edith Benzinger facilitates.
Reel Faith – A continuation of our popular monthly gatherings to view and discuss documentaries and fiction films which deal with important issues of life and faith. Our Fall 2009 Schedule: Sept. 22 “Doubt.” October 19 “The Seventh Seal.” November 19 “A Look at the St. Louis International Film Festival.” December 17 “The Bishop’s Wife.”
