Dear friends:

We invite you to a gathering Saturday, September 11, from 3-4 PM at Christ Church Cathedral, 1210 Locust Street, Downtown St Louis.  This peace gathering will be comprised of leaders in the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities.  We are standing together as one voice reclaiming the value of our shared humanity and honoring the Sacred that sustains all of us.  We want to say “No More” to the voices of intolerance and distrust that assume that difference means menace.   At this short service we will honor our diversity of faith and cultures by standing together committed to peace.  We will be present and look forward to sharing this time with any of you.

Unfortunately, an act of intolerance slated for Saturday has become a press frenzy in these past days.  There will be peaceful stands – such as this one in St. Louis – throughout the country.  Hopefully we will show the press an alternative vision of who we are as communities of faith at the same time we come together to give honor to God.

Immediately following worship, all are invited to make the short journey to the side lawn of the church for our Homecoming meal hosted by our Shepherds.  To make reservations for the meal, please contact the church office at 314-361-8844.

Participants are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating as well as food to share with other church members and any neighborhood friends who might be in the park that afternoon.

The evening concert is sponsored by Union Communion Ministries, a neighborhood outreach of which Union Avenue Christian is a participant and supporter.

Note: For those unable to worship with us in the park, there will be an adult Christian education offering at the church Sunday morning at 9:30 AM  followed by a short communion service at 10:30 AM.

Join us on Sunday morning May 23 for a special Pentecost worship in our  dining room. Our worship experience will take the form of an Agape Feast or”love meal,” patterned after the form of worship practiced by the earliest followers of Christ who met in homes for a meal, a retelling of the Christian story, and the sharing of the bread and cup. We will gather around the table to join in an actual meal together as a way to remember Jesus’ own practice of open table sharing and to celebrate the diversity and fellowship of Christian community. The adult and children’s choirs will sing, we will celebrate our youth, children, and small group ministries, welcome new members, share communion, and enjoy an interactive message that will invite us to consider how we are each called to use our gifts in the mission of the Church.  Worship is at 10:45 AM in the Dining Room on the lower level.

We sing uncomplicated, repetitive songs [uncluttered by too many words] to bring forth an authentic encounter with the mystery of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Please join us and invite your friends who might appreciate the beauty and simplicity of this spiritual journey.
