Belt Avenue] for the third summer offering of The Ivory Perry Park Concert Series featuring Tony Simmons and his band performing on the Commerce Bank stage.

Legendary music virtuoso, Tony Simmons, a Kansas City native, began playing piano at the tender age of five. Born with glaucoma, Tony lost his vision completely by age seven. Tony moved to St. Louis at 13 to attend the Missouri School for the Blind. A seasoned performer, Tony's latest accomplishment is the release of his new CD entitled "The Master Key." This compilation features a blend of R&B, smooth jazz and contemporary jazz. Tony currently plays for Theo Peoples, Kirk Franklin and Gospo Centric. He travels and plays for Denise Thimes and St. Louis blues diva Kim Massie on many occasions.

This event is free and open to the public. Soft drinks and water will be available for sale. Please bring your own seating (lawn chair or blanket). Activities are provided for children.

This concert series is part of the outreach ministry of our church to the surrounding neighborhood in partnership with Union Communion Ministries (UCM). Prior to the concert, UCM and its partner churches (Union Avenue, Pilgrim Congregational UCC, and Westminster Presbyterian) will participate in a back-to school fair in the park for local school children in partnership with our local alderman. Over 300 backpacks of school supplies will be given away.

After a potluck pinic together and a visit with some of the neighbors, we got down to the buisness of planting watermelon, beets, lettuce, cabbage, okra, and tomatoes. It was an intergenerational affair, with the work shared by everyone from youth to senior citizens. All produce from the garden will go to benefit local food pantries and outreach programs for neighborhood children and others in need.
