Recently we took a new step in that commitment by covenanting to be a Global Mission Church. In addition to the many ways we already support the work of our missionaries and mission partners around the globe, we are seeking new ways to explore that commitment through outreach giving, education, and advocacy.

We are now financially supporting two major outreach efforts in the country of Haiti. One partner we support is The National Spiritual Council of Churches of Haiti (CONASPEH), the largest partnership of outreach organizations in the country. The other project is House of Hope , a program for children laboring as domestic servants (“restaveks”). They also assist young moms, single girls, and elderly women who have been abandoned, by providing them with a safe place where they can learn social skills such as conflict resolution and a professional trade.

Church members and friends are needed to make each of these projects a success:

Winter Clothing Drive for Kids - Throughout the month of December, you are invited to bring new or good used children's winter hats, gloves and coats and place them under the Christmas tree in the Fellowship Room. These items will then be distributed to the children served by the Memorial Blvd. Food Pantry.

Celebrate Advent with Homeless Teens at Covenant House - Sun. Dec. 2 (1:30 pm) we are invited to join with the youth at Covenant House, a residential program in our neighborhood for homeless youth, to decorate their facility for Christmas. Volunteers are needed to help prepare goodie bags, decorate with the youth, judge the decorating contest, donate snacks, and simply be a caring presence as we spend time with the teens. To sign up, please contact Brian Kirk or Britani Hollis.

Christmas Assistance to Needy Families - Our joint neighborhood ministry (UCM), along with other other churches in the neighborhood, will host a community-wide event Sat. Dec. 15 (11-2 pm) at the Monsanto YMCA at 5555 Page. The goal is to assist hundred of families in need this holiday season with toys, personal care items, food, and be a loving presence. Many church volunteers will be needed to help organize and staff this special event. To get involved and help spread some holiday cheer, please contact Brian Kirk or Britani Hollis.
