Each of these abstract works is painted on a real canvas and will come complete with a mini easel perfect for display.

All proceeds from the sale will be used by our children to purchase winter hats and gloves for neighborhood children in need this winter.

This activity is the culmination of our summer-long study with the children on “An Attitude of Gratitude – Learning to Give Thanks.”

Betsy Gibbs has spent much of her life creating art and her current exhibit in the church’s Gretchen Brigham Gallery demonstrates the full-range of her subjects and styles.  Betsy is currently chair of Union Avenues arts ministry.

Kimeisha Brown is a middle-school youth and is mentored by Johnathan Loesch, one of our resident artists. Through Johnathan’s guidance, Kimeisha has created seven works of art that are now on display in our new outer gallery.

A reception for these two artists will be held on Sunday, June 6 in the gallery at 12:15 pm.  Their works will be on display through the month of June.

Lars, a delusional but kind loner (Ryan Gosling), buys a life-size doll over the internet and promptly falls in love with her, introducing the doll to others as his platonic girlfriend who just happens to be a missionary. His family, the townspeople, and the members of his church struggle with how to help their friend while also practicing radical love and acceptance. This offbeat and thoughtful comedy costars Patricia Clarkson. (PG-13)

As always, the popcorn is free and a short but lively discussion will follow the film.

On SundayMay 2, following worship,  the Arts Group of Union Avenue [AGUA] will host a reception honoring the artists from Soldan International Studies High School whose art will be on exhibit in the Brigham Gallery throughout the month of May.  Please plan to come by the church to view this collection of art in a variety of styles and materials created by high school youth in the Union Avenue Christian neighborhood.

Our Reel Faith event for March, just in the time for Lent and Holy Week, is the film “Chocolat.” Set in 1950s France, a free-thinking single mother (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter move into a peaceful seaside village and open an uncommon chocolate shop during the height of Lent — directly across the street from the church. The shop’s sensuous desserts scandalize the town until the villagers (including Johnny Depp) learn to savor the sweetness of life. (PG-13). Participants are invited, if they so choose, to bring some chocolate to share and, as always, free popcorn will be provided. There will be a short discussion following the film. Rated pg-13.
