2018 LENTEN STUDY SERIES

UNION AVENUE CHRISTIAN CHURCH will once again host a Wednesday evening Lenten Study Series shared between the three Union Communion congregations — Pilgrim Congregational United Church, Westminster Presbyterian, and Union Avenue. We will gather for a potluck meal, beginning each Wednesday at 5:15 p.m., and then break into groups for dialogue and discovery.

Beginning Sunday, January 21, and continuing for three successive Sundays, Rev. Michael Riggs leads us into the Gospel of Mark for a sermon series entitled “HAVING SOMETHING TO SAY: THE PUBLIC VOICE OF THE CHURCH." In Mark's stories about the Kingdom of God, we'll discover how humanity — its society and institutions — impedes the in-breaking of God's kingdom more than it invites and how Jesus calls us beyond our fear.

The METRO TRANS UMBRELLA GROUP will bring together the disparate communities it serves for an evening of celebration and advocacy at Union Avenue Christian Church Saturday, February 3. A facilitated panel discussion of parents and partners of transgender adults will begin the evening's activities at 5 p.m. followed by a concert in the Union Avenue Sanctuary.

MLK CELEBRATION: KEEPING HOPE ALIVE

This SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, the congregation of Union Avenue Christian Church will gather together in unity and love with our friends and neighbors from Pilgrim Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) and Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) as we remember and celebrate the life and ministry of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Reverend Ayanna Johnson Watkins will bring a powerful word to share and challenge us with, entitled KEEPING HOPE ALIVE. We gather for worship at 10:45 at Union Avenue, and following worship we will gather at tables to share a meal and fellowship in unity and love.

On SATURDAY, JANUARY 6, at 2 p.m., Union Avenue Christian Church will host a special celebration of God’s call upon our lives and ministry. This Epiphany will see our congregation open its hearts and minds and doors to a feast of the Spirit as we officially install our new Senior Minister, the Rev. Michael Riggs, and inaugurate our shared ministry together. Please join us for this special service and reception marking a milestone in the life of our congregation.
