Gathering Voices: A New Small Group Opportunity
GATHERING VOICES: A New Small Group Opportunity
Was Jesus really divine? What is the heart of the gospel? How can we understand the concept of God in the twenty-first century? These are questions that should challenge us individually. But what does it mean to ask these sorts of questions together as a community of faith?
You are invited to be part of “Gathering Voices,” a special short-term effort at Union Avenue Christian Church focused on exploring these questions of faith together, sharing both the great diversity of expression and experience that is our strength and discovering where we find commonality in our beliefs.
Beginning on Sunday May 15 all Union Avenue Christian Church members and friends are invited to participate in this experiment by joining a small group of 5-7 people. These small groups will gather for four Sundays (May 15, 22, 29, and June 5) during the Christian education hour (9:30 - 10:30 AM). Each Sunday these small groups will address a different question of faith together:
Week 1: What is the heart of the GOSPEL message?
Week 2: Who or what is God for us?
Week 3: What do we mean when we affirm Jesus as CHRIST?
Week 4: What is the mission of the CHURCH and our church?
Our goal is to open dialogue within our fellowship, celebrating our diversity of thought but also lifting up what we can affirm as central to our faith together. On Pentecost Sunday, all participants will be invited to a special gathering that morning as we share the results of the group discussions and consider what insights we have discovered.
To sign up for a small group and join this experiment, please call the church office (314-36-8844) or contact Rev. Brian Kirk at brianskirk@yahoo.com.
