Urban Mission Inn Volunteer Projects
This su
mmer hundreds of volunteers from around the country will come to Union Avenue to stay in our Urban Mission Inn while they serve in a variety of outreach ministries and organizations around the city. Volunteers will work with inner city children, feed the hungry, serve the elderly, work in community gardens, and experience the needs and gifts of the St. Louis community. With so many guests coming to serve with us in mission, there are many ways for us to get involved and extend to them some radical Christian hospitality. Here are some of the ways you can help:
- Prepare the UMI space - Volunteer to check the Inn to make sure it is tidy and ready for the next group.
- Greet visiting groups - Be on hand to meet groups when they arrive, give them a tour of the building, and welcome them to our neighborhood.
- Share baked goods - Nothing says welcome like a plate of brownies or cookies. We are in need of donations of baked goods to share with our guests when they arrive.
- Create gift bags - Help us provide simple welcome bags to each visitor with basic items such as a water bottle, Kleenex, candy, granola bar, etc.
- Provide a Meal - Work with others to provide a simple meal for a visiting group. Meals could include a basic breakfast of bagels, a pizza lunch, or a full-blown dinner.
- Pray for our volunteers and their mission work in the city.
If you'd like to get involved in any of these areas or have other ideas of how you might share your gifts with our UMI ministry, please contact Associate minister Brian Kirk at brianskirk at yahoo.com.
