The Union Avenue
Outreach Team Ministry is declaring April as the "Month of Mission." The team is organizing a variety of mission opportunities throughout this month, including:
Sunday, April 11 - Fair Trade Festival: Before and after worship our Fellowship Room will be the place to go for a variety of fair trade items from Plowsharing Crafts. Sale of these handcrafted items will provide meaningful income for skilled artisans around the world. Our fellowship time after worship will also feature our new fair trade coffee.
Monday April 12 - Mission Project at Isaiah 58 Ministries: Sign up to be part of a mission team from our church serving at Isaiah 58 (housed at Compton Hghts. Christian at 2149 South Grand) from 9 AM - 1 PM on Monday. The team will help in the food pantry and clothes closet, among other projects.
Wednesday April 14 - Reel Faith Presentation: "Promises" , a documentary about how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict affects the children of the Middle East. The film culminates with a meeting between two Israeli and two Palestinian children at a refugee camp. 7 pm in the Fellowship Rm.
Friday April 16- Saturday April 17 - Work Weekend: Join us for a variety of work projects around the building, including our Urban Mission Inn space. Dinner will be provided on Friday evening, and participants are encouraged to spend the night in our 3rd floor Mission Inn space. Work projects continue on Saturday morning in the building and nearby as we prepare and plant at our local community garden. Come for all or part of this weekend event. 5pm - 12 noon.
Sunday April 25 - Mission Project - Join us during the Sunday morning Christian Education hour as we assemble health kits to aid those in places of natural disaster. Donated items needed for each kit include: hand towels (16" x 28"), washcloths, wide-tooth combs, nail clippers, bar soap, toothbrushes, band aids. 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Rm.
Wednesday April 28 - Reel Faith: "The Mission." In the mid-18th century, a Jesuit missionary (Jeremy Irons) establishes a church in the hostile jungles of Brazil, but he finds his work converting the rain forest natives threatened by greed and political forces among his superiors. Robert DeNiro is a heartless soldier who persuades the priest to oversee his penance and conversion to the clergy. Nominated for 7 Oscars. (PG) 7 pm in the Fellowship Rm.
